First Update in 2011

Happy New Year!

Despite the cold weather and much snow, things are progressing on our house.  The builders, electricians and plumber have been working on the interior.  The house is finally "buttoned up" - exterior doors and garage doors are installed.  Siding will have to wait for warmer temperatures, but in the meantime the builders have plenty to keep them busy.  We are still looking at sometime in the month of March to move in.  Everything is either ordered, on site, or stored somewhere ready for delivery (counter tops, flooring, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, appliances, fireplace, some furniture, etc.)  Mary Lou had to create a spreadsheet so we can keep everything straight!  Kitchen cabinets are being assembled right now, and should be delivered later in January. All the wiring has been roughed-in and has passed inspection.  Most of the insulation was done this week, and the sheet rocking has begun.  Here are a few photos taken since the last update in late November:

Herman's Room  (the garage). The 60,000 BTU Hot Dawg propane heater IS attached to the ceiling.

This is the bonus room over the garage.  We decided to put a closet to the right as you enter the bonus room, and also put a insulated separation wall with a door into the largest section of the room - which would allow us to have a separate heating zone and better control heating costs for that large space. The upstairs rooms will also be heated with hot water - coming off the Steffes Unit in the mechanical room - zoned separately from the downstairs areas. By laying the bonus room space out this way, it will be better suited for use as a bedroom, should that ever be needed.  For now, we will use this as our main storage space, being we do not have a basement.

This is the view standing in the kitchen looking back towards the pocket door that will be the entrance to the laundry room/mud room area. Where the insulation is piled will be the storage/craft room area where we will have our small freezer, a few upper cabinets along one wall with a counter below without lower cabinets (open for stool seating to use as a work table/laundry folding area).

From the kitchen, looking down the small hallway towards the foyer.  The half bath is on the left, and an under stairway closet is on the right. The kitchen cabinet plans are taped to one of the wall studs, right about where the refrigerator will be located.

This is looking up at the temporary balcony railing - from the living room below.  The doorway you see at the top right of the balcony is the entrance to the guest bedroom upstairs.

...And this is looking down from the balcony.

This is the view from the master bedroom, looking towards the door into the bathroom area. The doorway on the other side of the bathroom is the entrance to the walk-in closet (you walk through the bathroom to get to that closet area).

A freeway of wires!
